Message from the Finance Pre-College Director

Talented CEOs, savvy bankers, successful entrepreneurs, extraordinary marketing professionals, and inspiring community servants all have one thing in common: strong financial skills. If you plan on working in an organization, or perhaps running your own business, you are going to rely heavily on your own financial skills.

One of the best things about finance, however, is that the same principals used to run businesses can also be applied to our personal lives. This thought describes the approach taken in this course. We will first learn time-tested foundational concepts in finance, and then we will explore how to apply those concepts in business and in our personal lives.

Professor Reck joined the Marist faculty upon his retirement from IBM in June 2019. While at IBM, he served as CFO of IBM North America, CFO of IBM Analytics, and Assistant Corporate Controller. Throughout his business career, he was active in executing acquisitions and divestitures, launching new business units, and driving strategic transformation. He was selected to serve on IBM鈥檚 Financial Policy Committee.  

At Marist, Professor Reck teaches a range of subjects including corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and business management. He was recognized by student government as the School of Management鈥檚 Faculty of the Year in 2023. Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Professor Reck serves on the Board of Directors of a privately-held company.
