Leander Schaerlaeckens has been a lecturer in sports communication at Marist since 2017, mostly teaching Sports Reporting; Sport, Culture, and Communication; and Issues in Sports Media. Leander started Center Field, a website covering Marist sports in depth, and a companion podcast network within the Center for Sports Communication.

Leander is also the soccer columnist for Yahoo Sports, one of the most respected and visited sports websites in the world. He was previously a soccer writer for ESPN and FOX Sports. His writing has also appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, and Men鈥檚 Journal, and was twice noted in the Best American Sports Writing anthology.

Leander was born in the Netherlands, grew up in Belgium, went to college in London, and attended graduate school in Washington, D.C. before settling in the Hudson Valley with his wife, son, and mutt, Eleanor Roosevelt. He is fluent in English, Dutch, and French.

He has a love-hate relationship with the New York Mets. At the moment, he isn鈥檛 talking to them.
